Further afield… Penmachno
We are lucky to live in a city with such great riding on the doorstep but sometimes its nice to try something or somewhere different. This weekend we left Rich and Oskar in charge of the shop and headed to North Wales for some mountain biking action.
We were based at The Eagles pub/bunkhouse in Penmachno just outside Betsw y Coed, a great base to explore the trails, the trails start just up the road.
Penmachno is a fantastic loop, all waymarked but definitely feels remote and off the beaten track. Its very different to trails in the Peak District, all based on slate and in and out of the pine forest. Highly recommended.
Betsw y Coed is the hub for most outdoor activities around North Wales and Snowdonia. Plenty of opportunity for tea and cake stops.
On the way back from Penmachno we had a quick visit to Coed Llandegla trail centre (which also does great cake). Much more man made feel but still fun none the less. Although after the cake the climbs felt long and arduous.
All in all a great weekend. We’d highly recommend trying some riding further afield and North Wales is a good start.
