The UK’s first ever crowd funded trail, organised by Ride Sheffield, has just been opened on the edge of Houndkirk Moor, just outside Ringinglow. Sheffield City Council worked with Bike Track, a trail building company based in Mosborough, to build the 1.4km trail.

Lady Canning’s Trail is well linked to central Sheffield via the Peak District Cycle Route; it’s only a twenty minute ride from the city centre. Local riders and businesses from all the county have generously donated to the cause, raising an impressive £15,000 to fund the development and opening of the new trail. This includes the final £5,000 from Go Outdoors, who have also pledged an extra £60,000 to the future development of more trails in the woods surrounding Sheffield (something we’re very excited about!)

Tuesday 17th July saw the trail being opened by Steve Pete and Annie Last, and for the past week there’s been a great response from the local riding community. We’ve all ridden the trail and think it’s a brilliant addition to the local trail network. It’s fast, flowing and great fun for all abilities. We’ve been really impressed by everyone involved with the project. The results are a great testimonial to the enthusiasm and dedication of our cycling community, and to Sheffield’s title as The Outdoor City.
